Care and Cleaning

All of our rugs have been professionally cleaned upon arrival in Canada.

Please note that we highly recommend the use of underlay with any rug. Underlay will prevent a rug from slipping and most importantly, will stop dirt and other debris from making it’s way underneath rugs, to damage floors. It also provides extra cushioning and comfort under foot and prolongs the life of your rugs.

Day to Day Care

For removing dust and dirt, we suggest shaking your rug outside if it is small enough. If the size of the rug makes it impractical, it can be vacuumed. We recommend using the hardwood floor attachment to slowly vacuum across the rug, from side-to-side so as not to damage the fibres. Be sure to flip the rug and vacuum both sides. Shaking and vacuuming on a regular basis should be sufficient to keep the rug clean during normal use.

Under no circumstances should a power head with beater bars be used on our rugs as they could damage the fibres.

Hanging or placing your rugs to air in the sunshine is a great way to keep them smelling clean and eliminate humidity.

Never store your rugs in a plastic bag, if you do choose to store your rugs at any time, ensure it is professionally cleaned first, it may then be stored wrapped in a sheet or a fabric container made for storage that can breathe.

Cleaning

For best results, we recommend having your cleaned by a professional rug cleaner, or for smaller area rugs by a professional dry cleaner.

Should a spill occur on a rug, spot cleaning is possible. If a liquid spills onto a rug, immediately absorb all of the moisture you can using clean towels or paper towel. Be sure to place a towel underneath the rug where the spill occurred (on top of the underlay) and on top to ensure the maximum amount of liquid is absorbed. We then suggest making a solution of 1 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid and 6 cups of lukewarm water in a large bowl. Moisten a clean cloth with the cleaning solution, wring out the excess moisture and blot the surface of the stain, pressing the soapy water into the stain. The towel underneath the rug will help absorb the moisture and stain.

Continue with this method until the spill is gone, changing the soapy water when necessary and replacing the wet towel from underneath the carpet with a dry one until the process is complete. When you are satisfied with the cleaning of the spot, use lukewarm tap water to rinse any remaining soap residue through the rug, using the same process with more fresh, dry towels to remove any excess moisture out of the rug. Ensure no one walks on the wet area until the rug has dried completely.

For tougher stains, such as red wine, we have had success using Dr. Beckmann 2 in 1 Oxy-Powered Carpet Cleaner. Be sure to test for colorfastness on a hidden section before use.
